Making A Difference Speakers: 2022-2023
Making a Difference Speaker Series: AlgoCraft: Remixing Craft, Culture, and Computation - with Dr. Anuradha Reddy
If heritage crafts were computational things, what would you make with it?
We are excited to announce our next speaker series session with Dr. Anuradha Reddy. This talk on ‘AlgoCraft’ or Algorithmic Craft will showcase several projects where craft, culture, and computation come together in fun and inventive ways. With the help of key concepts like patterns, grammars, and symmetries, Dr. Reddy describes her creative process of translating between heritage craft and computing languages. Her outputs often result in one-off knotty (and naughty) things that put computation to very unexpected uses.
Her projects include QR code crocheted towels, a period tracker based on Islamic geometry, folk-embroidery-inspired two-factor authentication, private encryption using crocheted keys, and more!
Please join us on Thursday, February 16, at 1:30 p.m AST. Students, Teachers and parents are encouraged to join independently or in groups. This session is most relevant for Grade 6 and above.
